A 3D printer using the stereolithography technique: a high power laser polymerizes liquid resin layer by layer to create the 3D object. The main advantages over more classical FDM (where object is printed by layers of melted plastic) are a higher resolution, the option to create watertight objects, and the possibility to glue several printed parts together using a hand-held laser. The main disadvantage is that resin is more expensive than plastic. We have clear and black resin available only, but the printer can handle all resin types offered by Formlabs (clear, white, grey, black, flexible, castable; maybe more in the future).
